Carbon PASR Members’ Projects

 

  I.      Carbon PASR Members involved with the following Community Service Projects:

1.      Collect Shoes, Books and Funds to Donate to the "Let Them Walk in Our Shoes" Project to send to children in Afghanistan and to the Native American Reservations.

2.      Sponsor Christmas trees for troops’ and their families.

3.      Knitting helmet liner project for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

4.      Helped the armory sell Joe Corbi products to assist in recognition programs for National Guard of Carbon County.

5.      In initial service of Healthy Smiles Dental Van, assisted in taking students back and forth to the van, so the professionals could continue their service uninterrupted.

6.      Stuffed envelopes for the Healthy Smiles Dental Project.

7.      Worked in the bingo tent for Special Olympics at the Palmerton Festival.

8.      Phone responders for American Cancer Society Telethon at Penn’s Peak.

9.      Participate at the Keith McCall’s Health Fair.

10.  Members volunteer in Carbon Local Schools, Churches, Libraries, Hospitals, transport patients for Cancer and Dialysis Treatment; serve on local School Advisory Committees, School board and local town councils, run food pantries, assist in bingo at fire companies (which enables townships to NOT add taxes for fire protection).

II.      Carbon PASR Members involved with the following Educational Support Projects.

1.      Practitioner Award to Active Teachers (over $7,000)

2.      Annual recognition to Educator and Support Staff through the Lauretta Woodson Award. The 2009 Lauretta Woodson Award Recognized Educator Panther Valley Superintendent, Rosemary Poremba and a Support Staff.

3.      Member participation as judges for the Carbon County Scholastic Scrimmage.

4.      Sponsor Scholarships for the Carbon County Boy's and Girl's Band.

  III.      Carbon PASR Members involved with Social Service Projects.

1.      Provide connection (by regular visitation, regular phone calls and greeting cards) between elderly retired and the "outside world", maintaining mental health of those confined to assisted living residences or home-bound.

  IV.      Carbon PASR members involved with Retirement Planning Projects:

1.      Attend PSERS 'Foundations For The Future' meetings.  Held at various times during the course of the year.  In Carbon County at the Jim Thorpe Senior High School.  Participants receive information on opportunities available to them upon retirement. 

2.      Annual Retirement Planning Seminar (sponsored by the Carbon County PASR) held at the Hampton Inn, Lehighton.  There is no financial charge and the participants are treated to a free breakfast buffet.  The highlights of the seminars are the speakers who deal with all important phases of retirement.
