to the Carbon County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees which is comprised of 250 retired members who were employed at one of  five following school districts: Jim Thorpe Area, Lehighton Area, Palmerton Area, Panther Valley Area, and Weatherly Area; or the retirees are Carbon County residents who were employed by public school districts outside of the Carbon County area.

Carbon Chapter joins with Berks, Lehigh, Northampton and   Schuylkill Chapters to make up Region 2 of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Our members are former school teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, secretaries, aides, cafeteria workers, bookkeepers, business managers, bus drivers and maintenance staff.

Carbon County Chapter of PASR is meeting the needs of former co-workers and friends, raising money for scholarships, visiting members in nursing homes, doing volunteer work in the community, and lobbying state legislators on issues of importance to school retirees.

If you are not a member of Carbon chapter or of our state association, won't you please join us?

We are waiting for you!

A MESSAGE from

PRESIDENT SANDRA KOKINDA

 Carbon County PASR Members…

Did you receive your PSERS pension check this month?  Of course you did.  There has been much said about the status of the annuity system due to past state legislation and the economy, yet we are able to continue to receive our monthly benefits.  This is due partially to our contributions during our active employment years and the slow, steady economic improvement. Another factor is the support we receive from PASR.

As active employees we knew the importance of supporting our local, state and national associations. They were there to support and defend us in situations that may have occurred in the school setting and to help with salary negotiations.  NOW, as retirees we look to PASR for our support. The minimal cost as compared to our yearly school association dues works to provide legislative contacts, finance legal protests, and provide services to our association members.  See our web site at: www.pasr.org and up-date yourself on all that is available.

PASR needs your help! This organization is only as strong as its member participation.

· Come out and join us for our scheduled local chapter activities. There is something for everyone.

· If you are not a state PASR member we urge you to consider paying the extra amount to be state affiliated.

· Reach out to school retirees who over the past 5-7 years have not joined PASR.  Encourage them by a friendly personal contact and be sure to invite them to attend an event with you.

· Volunteer to serve on a local committee.  I am excited to announce

that our leadership roles are filled and now we are encouraging our membership to serve on a committee.  Most committees have minimal meetings and yet it is a real nice way to stay connected.

Your executive committee is available to assist you.  Please feel free to contact any of us for information.
